Welcome back to our four‑part series, “A Garden for All Four Seasons.”
In this second installment, we step out of the early spring chill and journey straight into the warm, colorful abundance of summer here in our home garden.
I’m David Wilson for Overdevest Nurseries, and although I’m filming on a breezy late‑winter morning, today I’m excited to share the sights, colors, textures, and plant combinations that make summer such a rewarding season in a naturalistic, low‑maintenance garden.
🌞 In this episode, you’ll see:
Flowing, contemporary British‑inspired garden design with easy‑to‑mow lawns
Natural plant colonies that provide color, movement, and interest all summer
Coneflowers in multiple forms and colors
Hydrangeas in electric blues, soft pinks, lavenders, and creamy whites
Lacecap and panicle hydrangeas adding structure and elegance
Grasses, sedges, and shade‑loving perennials thriving in cooler pockets
Siberian and Japanese iris near water edges
Catmints, sages, speedwells, astilbes, hostas, and lamiums reducing maintenance
Fragrant, pollinator‑friendly thymes carpeting sunny slopes
Disease‑resistant roses that are never sprayed
A garden that welcomes wildlife, encourages relaxation, and offers plenty of “H & C”— happiness and contentment
This garden has been our sanctuary for over 20 years—a place to unwind, reconnect with nature, and enjoy the simple pleasures of fragrance, movement, and seasonal change.

And stay with me to the end—I’ll tell you the true story of how we first discovered this property more than two decades ago. It’s one of my favorites.
This is David Wilson. Enjoy your gardening. It’s good for you, and it’s good for our environment.
