Plant Videos.

We are on a mission to bring the beauty and benefits of plants to everyone.  Years in the making, we’ve been creating one of the most comprehensive plant video collection in the world on our YouTube channel!  The plants that you see here are what we ship to our local garden center partners – no staged plants here!  So whether you are looking for plant inspiration, care tips, or an escape to nature you are in the right spot 🙂 The feed below features recent YouTube uploads – hundreds more can be found on our channel.

Have specific questions?  We welcome you to post those questions as comments to videos.  David and our team do our best to reply to everyone.  Keep growing!

Welcome back to our four‑part series, “A Garden for All Four Seasons.”
In this second installment, we step out of the early spring chill and journey straight into the warm, colorful abundance of summer here in our home garden.

I’m David Wilson for Overdevest Nurseries, and although I’m filming on a breezy late‑winter morning, today I’m excited to share the sights, colors, textures, and plant combinations that make summer such a rewarding season in a naturalistic, low‑maintenance garden.

🌞 In this episode, you’ll see:

Flowing, contemporary British‑inspired garden design with easy‑to‑mow lawns

Natural plant colonies that provide color, movement, and interest all summer

Coneflowers in multiple forms and colors

Hydrangeas in electric blues, soft pinks, lavenders, and creamy whites

Lacecap and panicle hydrangeas adding structure and elegance

Grasses, sedges, and shade‑loving perennials thriving in cooler pockets

Siberian and Japanese iris near water edges

Catmints, sages, speedwells, astilbes, hostas, and lamiums reducing maintenance

Fragrant, pollinator‑friendly thymes carpeting sunny slopes

Disease‑resistant roses that are never sprayed

A garden that welcomes wildlife, encourages relaxation, and offers plenty of “H & C”— happiness and contentment

This garden has been our sanctuary for over 20 years—a place to unwind, reconnect with nature, and enjoy the simple pleasures of fragrance, movement, and seasonal change.

🌱 Thinking about your own garden this year?
Let this video spark ideas for projects, plantings, or improvements you might want to explore. And be sure to visit our partnering garden centers—fresh shipments of Overdevest plants are arriving throughout the planting season.

💬 Share your thoughts, questions, successes, and even your gardening missteps in the comments.
👍 If you enjoy this series, please like, subscribe, and share so we can continue gardening together through all four seasons.

And stay with me to the end—I’ll tell you the true story of how we first discovered this property more than two decades ago. It’s one of my favorites.

This is David Wilson. Enjoy your gardening. It’s good for you, and it’s good for our environment.

🌟 “A Garden for All Four Seasons: Summer in Our 20 ‑Year Sanctuary.”

Overdevest Nurseries views 13 hours ago

Abelia Vanilla Brandy from First Editions® is one of the most reliable, eye‑catching shrubs you can grow. Its crisp green-and-white variegated foliage looks beautiful in every season, even when weather spoils the flowers of other plants. As the year progresses, the leaves take on soft pink and rose tones, highlighted by bright red stems that glow in autumn and winter.

In this video, David Wilson from Overdevest Nurseries reveals why Vanilla Brandy is such a valuable shrub for modern gardens. You’ll see how its lightly fragrant white tubular flowers appear on new growth from late spring or early summer all the way into autumn, attracting butterflies and hummingbirds. You’ll also learn why deer seldom bother with it, how to plant and care for it, and how well it responds to light trimming.

David also shares the fascinating story of its chance discovery in the Vince Dooley Tribute Garden at the University of Georgia — a moment that led to the development of this compact, beautifully variegated variety.

Want a garden that looks beautiful in every season—and doesn’t demand constant upkeep?
This video kicks off our new four-part series on Grown By Overdevest, showing how you can create a natural, low-maintenance garden that shines all year long.

🌱 Spring bulbs, perennials, shrubs, trees, and grasses
🌳 Naturalistic design that fits your neighborhood
🐝 Wildlife-friendly, dog-friendly, and family-friendly spaces
🛠️ Low-maintenance strategies for busy people

We’ve spent over 20 years shaping our own “little bit of paradise,” and today we’re inviting you in. Filmed in January, this episode shows how thoughtful design—curving bed lines, layered plantings, and smart use of groundcovers—can help you work with the land, not against it.

You’ll see how we embraced:

Existing trees, native plants, and steep slopes

A small stream that adds movement and life

Flowing lawn areas that are easy to mow

Canopies, colonies, and drifts that reduce maintenance while adding texture and color

This is a garden built for vistas and vignettes that evolve through the seasons—a place for dogs to run, friends to gather, and wildlife to visit (whether we invited them or not!).

Today’s video begins with a wonderful viewer comment from @JulieFurman1978, who wrote, “What a spectacularly beautiful tree.” She’s talking about the Weeping Alaskan Cedar — and she’s absolutely right.

If you missed last week’s video introducing this elegant, shapely, low‑maintenance evergreen, I encourage you to check it out. In this follow‑up, filmed in early January in my own garden, I highlight why evergreens like this are so valuable in a winter landscape and why they continue to earn their keep all year long.

If you already grow this dependable, time‑tested, and easy‑to‑love tree, we would love to hear your experiences in the comments.

There’s also a lot more to this tree than meets the eye. In this video, I share some fascinating stories about its discovery and introduction — beginning with the remarkable Scottish plant hunter Archibald Menzies, who first encountered the species in Nootka Sound, a name preserved today in its species name: nootkatensis.

Menzies and intrepid fellow Scots such as John Fraser, David Douglas, Robert Fortune, George Forrest, and George Don endured harsh conditions, disease, leeches, pirates, and perilous travel to bring back many of the plants we treasure in our gardens today. Their courage, fortitude, and curiosity helped shape horticulture as we know it.

Join me as we explore the beauty, history, and enduring value of this extraordinary evergreen.
